CRASH IN THE 18 BOX

5/5/08- At 22:01 hours, Engine Company 20 and Rescue 18 were sent to North Enola Road at College Hill Road for the auto accident. Engine 20 and Rescue 18's crews secured the vehicles and performed fluid control before returning.


ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR

4/26/08- We would like to thank you for another successful year! We hosted our annual buffet breakfast and chicken bbq in conjunction with the town yard sale on Saturday. The chicken dinners went fast like always with us selling out in 2 hours. 


WRECKER OVERTURNED

4/5/08- At 00:19 hours, Company 20 was sent on a local to 11/15  in the area of the county line for the fuel spill. Engine 20 (Laman) arrived to find that a large wrecker had rolled on its side and was already up righted prior to arrival. The rig was leaking fuel through a punctured saddle tank. The Engine and Tanker's crews assisted with containing the leak and lighting before returning.


BUILDING OFF IN RYE TOWNSHIP

3/31/08- Today at 10:44 hours headquarters dispatched Cumberland County Companies to assist Perry Company 6 with a Commercial Building Fire in Rye Township. Engine 20 arrived as the first engine on scene to find a well involved structure with fire through the roof and laid a supply line from the hydrant at Rt. 850 and Flowers Lane. Engine 20 used a 3 inch line to supply Perry Truck 2 and a 3 inch line to the engine's portable master stream that was set up on side bravo. Tanker 20 arrived then to be the second attack piece on the alpha delta corner of the building and had several lines in service operating on the fire building and a portable master stream to the delta charlie corner of the fire building. Crews from the Tanker and Engine provided Truck 17 with manpower.


ONE OVERTURNED AT THE RAMPS

3/31/08- At 09:09 hours, The interstate box was sent to Interstate 81 northbound at the 11&15 off ramp for the auto accident. Engine 20 (Wagner) arrived to find one tractor trailer overturned with one patient self extricated. Crews assisted with patient packaging and contained a fluid leak before clearing the box.


HAY BALES AND DUMP TRUCK OFF IN SILVER SPRING

3/26/08- Today the tanker and brush were dispatched to box 31-05 for hay bales on fire.  The tanker assisted in water supply.


CHIMNEY FIRE IN THE 19 BOX

3/20/08- Tonight at 2042 hours box 19-01 was struck for a chimney fire with extension.  Chief 19 (Dressler) arrived first and had a working chimney fire.  The engine arrived and split its crew with some going to the roof and others working inside at the fireplace and outside on the clean out.  Crews dropped chimney bombs and chains to extinguish the fire.  No extension was found and crews went in service after about an hour.  


NORTH ENOLA DRIVE ACCIDENT

3/18/08- Early this morning the 18-02 box was hit for an auto accident on North Enola Drive.  Chief 18 (Rudeck) arrived and found a vehicle had struck a parked car along the roadway and then veered into the front yard of another house.  The engine arrived and control hazards and cleaned up debris. 


WRECK ON THE INTERSTATE

3/15/08- This morning around 1100 hours the 20-96 box was sent out to Interstate 81 Northbound for an auto accident with unknown injuries.  Ambulances 71 and 75 arrived first to find a single vehicle off the side of the roadway facing the opposite direction.  The single occupant refused EMS and the engine held the box to itself and Tanker 19.  Crews returned shortly after arriving.  


VALLEY ROAD ACCIDENT

2/27/08- This afternoon around 1400 hours the 20-01 box was sent to Valley Road just down from the station for an auto accident.  Chief 5 (Bumgardner) arrived first and found a vehicle had struck a parked truck with a single patient.  The box was held to Engine 20 and a single EMS unit.  The engine arrived and cribbed the vehicles and assisted with patient care and clean up.  The box was cleared in about 45 minutes.  


LADDER TRAINING AT HACC

2/26/08- For training this evening the 20 crew traveled to HACC with township companies 17, 19, and 21 to brush up on ground ladders.  Crews worked around in a few stations practicing ladder rescues, throwing ground ladders and other skills involving ladders.  All companies worked well together. 


WINTER WEATHER CAUSES WRECKS ON 81

2/22/08- This morning around 0700 hours as snow fell across central PA the 20-96 box was sent to MM 61 SB for an accident with unknown injuries.  The engine was out the door quickly and found an accident at MM 64.5 NB which it directed the tanker, ambulance 175 and tanker 19 too.  Engine 20 continued to the original location and found nothing at that MM but at MM 60.5 it found a van off the side of the roadway which Rescue 30 handled.  Later in the day around 1127  the 96 box was again dispatched, this time a single vehicle was found just prior to Tower Rd on the northbound side off the roadway into several trees.  The single occupant of the vehicle was out but injured.  Ambulance 71 handled the patient with assistance of Companies 20, 30, and 19.  Engine 20 and Rescue 30 then stood by and assisted the wrecker with removing the vehicle.


PASSING OF A PAST CHIEF

2/18/08- On Saturday February 16th, 2008 past Fire Chief and life member Walter " Pete " Helman Jr., passed away. Pete served as Fire Chief of the Summerdale Fire Company from the years of 1968 to 1981. He was a true asset to the company and great friend to all. Pete will truly be missed! A viewing will be held on Tuesday 2-19-08 from 18:00 to 20:00 at the Summerdale United Methodist Church and again Wednesday 2-20-08 from 13:00 to 14:00. The Funeral services will begin at 14:00 at the church with burial at the Rolling Green Cemetery in Lower Allen Twp.


WORKING FIRE IN DAUPHIN COUNTY

2/13/08- This morning around 0600 the tanker was sent to Dauphin County Susquehanna Twp for a structure fire.  DC chief 37 was the first on scene with heavy fire from side c of the structure.   The tanker was out quick and arrived as the 3rd piece on scene.  Its crew went to work right away assisting DC companies 37 and 32 with trying to gain control of the fast moving fire.  Crews were eventually pulled out and master streams were used to control the fire.  After controlling most of the fire the crews went back inside and performed extensive overhaul.  The tanker crew remained on scene for well over 5 hours returning to a warm breakfast thanks to those who stayed on station.


MVA ON 81 AND SNOWY FIRE IN CREEKSIDE

2/12/08- Today at 1519 the Engine was sent to I81 in Hampden (Co 30) for an accident.  Engine 20 (Stilo Jr.) was out in minutes and while en-route was diverted to a reported house fire in Creekside (21).  Engine 2-21 arrived first with smoke showing from a single story ranch home.  Its crew found a working kitchen fire with extension.  Engine 20 was the 4th piece on scene and nosed into Engine 2-21 on side A.  Its crew went right to work performing overhaul and securing the utilities and then returned after about an hour.


JOB IN PERRY COUNTY

2/3/08- As the big game was finishing up the box was sent in Perry County Marysville Boro for a house fire.  Cumberland Chief 1-16 (Benoist) was in the area and went on scene with fire showing from a vacant house that was being renovated.  Engine 6 was closely behind him and confirmed this.  Engine 20 (Laman) was on the street quickly and arrived as the 3rd piece on scene.  It established a water supply and assisted with the knock and overhaul  The tanker arrived and assisted in checking for extension.  Crews contained the bulk of the fire to an exterior wall but performed extensive overhaul to ensure that the fire had not gone anywhere in the old balloon frame structure.  Crews made a good stop on the fire and the engine and tanker returned after about an hour on scene.


BUDDY BREATHING TRAINING AT SUMMERDALE

1/29/08- For training this evening the 20 crew was joined by Creekside (21) and West Enola (19) for practice with the buddy breather systems on the SCBA.  Crews practiced hooking into each others buddy breathing systems during a maze in the basement of the social hall.  Crews worked well together during the evolutions and a good time was had by all.  Thanks to companies 21 and 19 for joining us tonight.  


1ST ALARM AT PENNSBORO COMMONS

1/28/08- This evening at1841 hrs the 1st alarm was sent to the 19-01 box at the Hair Cuttery in the Pennsboro Commons shopping center for an odor inside.  Engine 20 (Laman) was out quickly and arrived as the 2nd engine on scene and took side a of the structure and investigated the odor.  Crews checked with the TIC and eventually found the problem to possibly be linked to a cigarette disposal container to the rear of the Hair Cuttery.  Units were released after a short time on scene. 


LANDING ZONE IN MARYSVILLE

1/25/08- Today around 1500 the engine was sent to Perry County Boro of Marysville at the Lions Club Park to set up an LZ for ambulance 69 (Marysville) who was on scene with a gunshot victim.  Engine 20 (Stilo Jr.) was out quickly and set up an LZ at the said location.  The crew also assisted with patient care at the LZ and then loaded the patient and returned.


TWO EJECTED ON THE INTERSTATE

1/12/08- At 16:51 hours the Township Companies along with Hampden were alerted to the Interstate at Mile 62 for a vehicle over turned. Chief 5 (Bumgardner) arrived to find one vehicle that had over turned several times with two patients ejected from the vehicle. Engine 20 (Laman) along with Engine 1-30 (Ozog) arrived and their crews assisted EMS with the patients and hazard control. Tanker 20 (Bahrenburg) arrived and started setting up some traffic control. EMS then requested Life Lion to fly and Rescue 18 (Rudeck) handled the landing zone.


MARYSVILLE GARAGE FIRE

1/9/08- This morning at 1000 hrs the engine and tanker were sent to Perry County, Marysville Borough  for a structure fire.  The Engine (Wagner) was out the door with 6 in seconds with the tanker right behind it.  Chief 6 (Weaver) and Engine 6 arrived to find a garage fully involved with an exposure problem.  The Engine arrived and secured a water supply for itself and Engine 6 laying in from a nearby hydrant and sent its crew to make a knock on the fire.  The Tanker staged down the street and sent its personal forward to assist with the knock and overhaul.  Crews made quick work of the fire and also knocked down fire in a 2nd garage next door.  After ensuring the fire was out, the Engine supplied foam to keep it from rekindling and then returned.
