COTTAGE FIRE IN PERRY
1/29/10 -At 06:48 hours, Engine company 20 and 18 was hit to assist Perry County company 6 (Marysville) with a house fire in the borough. While en route, Perry Chief 6-2 (Hetherington) arrived to find a small riverside cottage with a working fire. Tanker 20 was then requested to the scene due to the location of the cottage. Company 20 arrived to find company 6 out with a small fire in the floor area of the cottage. Crews assisted with extinguishment and overhaul before returning. AUTO ACCIDENT AT THE LIGHT 1/11/10- At 18:48 hours, Companies 20 & 18 were dispatched for an Auto Accident at N. Enola Road and Valley Road. Chief 2-20 (Matter) arrived to find two vehicles involved with two injuries. Crews started patient care and stabilized both vehicles and cleaned up the debris. 2009 FINAL REPORT 1/9/10- In the year of 2009 company 20 responded to 264 incidents. The company had 50 personnel who responded throughout the year. Unit responses were Engine 20 with 178, Tanker 20 with 65, Brush 20 with 33 and the Utility with 8. The top five responders were: Engineer Jim Bumgardner- 244, Firefighter Bill Brougher Sr.- 233, Firefighter Steve Stilo Sr.- 193, Firefighter Dexter Owen- 168 and Firefighter Josh Matter- 161. AUTO ACCIDENT VEHICLE OVERTURNED 1/6/10- At 18:18 hours, Dauphin box 84-11 was struck for an Auto Accident with a vehicle overturned. Engine 20 arrived to find one vehicle over-turned with the patients self-extricated and debris on the roadway. The Engine crew started patient care and stabilized both cars before returning. AUTO ACCIDENT IN THE 18 BOX 12/23/09- At 17:40 hours, Companies 18 & 20 were dispatched to the area of 400 N. Enola Road for an auto accident. Chief 5 (Bumgardner) arrived right after dispatched and confirmed two injuries and requested fire police to the scene. Engine 20 arrived and assisted EMS with patient care and also took care of some minor fluid leaks. STATION COVERED DURING THE SNOW STORM 12/19/09- As the snow started laying today, members started staffing the station. While on station the crew keep busy by making dinner, watching a movie and running a couple of calls. ICY ROADS CREATES 11&15 MESS
12/13/09- This morning central PA was hit with a period of freezing rain which caused a messy Sunday morning. At 08:58, The 20-99 box was hit for the crash on 11&15 on the I81 bridge. Chief 5 (Bumgardner) arrived first to find a large pile up of vehicles including two Penndot dump trucks. Company 20 arrived and checked all vehicles for injuries and hazards. Crews had to deal with extremely icy conditions while operating on the scene. Company 20 was assisted by Rescue 18 and PC Engine 6. ONE OVERTURNED IN PERRY
12/12/09- At 02:47 hours, The Engine was dispatched once again to assist Perry County Company 6 with the crash with one overturned into a pole. Engine 20 arrived to find Company 6 out with one vehicle overturned with two patients out of the vehicle being treated by EMS. A utility pole with power lines was also down due to the crash. The Engine crew assisted Company 6 with fluid control and debris removal before returning. CRASH AT THE LINE
12/12/09- At 00:10 hours, Engine Company 20 was dispatched to assist Perry County Company 6 with the accident on 11&15 in the area of the county line. Chief 6 (Weaver) arrived first to find the incident in Cumberland County and with the information Engine 20 (Owen) corrected the box to the 20-99 box. Company 20 arrived with Company 6 to find one vehicle with one minor injury. Crews contained a fluid leak and checked the vehicle for hazards before returning. REMINDER TO KEEP YOUR HYDRANTS CLEAR
With the winter season beginning, We would like to kindly remind everyone to keep the fire hydrants near your residence clear during and after a snowfall. When responding to fires in the winter season, It can take extra time for firefighters to clear the hydrants before being able to fully fight the fire. A few minutes of time can give you or your neighbors property more of a chance during a fire. HAPPY THANKSGIVING

11/10/09- Around 22:30 hours, the EPFD was sent to the area of State Highway and Market Street for a building fire. Chief 1-16 (Benoist) arrived right before dispatch and confirmed the working fire. Engine 20 arrived as the second piece and dropped a line at State Highway & West Street and laid into the scene. The crew split with half starting an attack while the others started opening up. Crews operated on the scene for nearly four hours. Special thanks to Duncannon and Rescue Fire Companies for covering our station while we worked. 11/2/09- At 11:55 hours, the 20-96 box was sent for an Auto Accident Vehicle Over-turned. Engine 20 arrived to find three vehicles involved, with one that rolled a couple times with all the patients out of the vehicle. Crews assisted EMS with patient care and controlled the rest of the hazards. ASSISTING HAMPDEN WITH ENTRAPMENT
11/2/09- At 10:18 hours, Hampden was dispatched for a crash with entrapment at Technology Parkway and Wertzville Road. Lieutenant 4-30 (McBride) arrived first to find one entrapped and requested Engine 20 to assist. Engine 20 arrived and assisted Engine 1-30's crew with extrication of the patient and fluid control. TOOL TRAINING 10/27/09- Tonight for training we practiced our skills using the spreaders and o-cutters. We got a bunch of used and a couple full soda cans, and picked them up and moved it from point A and point B without crushing the cans. Also there was another station setup to practice basic stabilization for our junior members. FIRE PREVENTION 2009
10/7 & 10/8/09- Once again, The East Pennsboro Fire Department visited the two township elementary schools for fire prevention week. On 10/7 crews visited West Creek Elementary School and on 10/8 East Pennsboro Elementary. Units from Companies 16,17,18,19,20,21, EP Ems, Traffic 5, Cumberland County mobile 9-1-1 unit and the fire prevention and safety trailer from Harrisburg City Bureau of Fire attended. 10/5/09- At 17:28 hours, The 20-96 box was sent for the tractor trailer overturned at the 81 ramps. Chief 5 (Bumgardner) arrived to find one tractor trailer on it side at the 81 southbound off ramp to 11&15 southbound. The Engine arrived next and investigated to find the patient out of the vehicle with minor injuries and a minor fluid leak from the rig. Crews were on scene for nearly two hours while recovery crews removed the truck from the beltway. ENGINE COMPANY ASSISTS ON CRASH
9/29/09- At 18:15 hours, Companies 30 and 20 were sent to the Interstate for a crash in the 30 box. Engine 20 was the first unit on the street with 8 and arrived to find two vehicles in the median. The Engine crew checked for injuries which turned out negative and returned. SUMMERDALE CENTENNIAL PARADE
9/19/09- The Summerdale Centennial committee held a parade through the streets of the village of Summerdale. This event marks the end of a year long celebration of the 100th birthday of Summerdale. REMEMBERING 9/11/01

9/9/09- At 12:09, The 1st alarm was once again hit for a reported apartment fire in company 16's first due. Engine 20 was on the street right away with a crew of 5. While en route, Utility 16 marked on the scene with smoke showing from a two story apartment building containing 14 units. Chiefs 5 (Bumgardner) and 5A (Owen) arrived and confirmed the working fire. Engine 20 (Wagner) arrived first and laid a supply line from a nearby hydrant and took side A. The crew stretched a line to the top floor where the fire was located. 9/8/09- At 21:46 hours, The 1st alarm was sent to the area of E. Dauphin Street and Wyoming Avenue for the reported house fire. Engine 20 was out the door right after dispatch with a crew of 7. Chief 1-17 (Lantz) marked up on the scene with a working fire reporting everyone to be out of the structure. Engine 20 arrived laying a line from a nearby hydrant into the scene. The crew immediately went work with pulling multiple lines and conducting a primary search ahead of the fire. The fire was knocked very quickly even before most assisting companies arrived. 8/21/09- At 18:16 hours, Engine 20 was dispatched to assist Perry County Company 6 with an auto accident. Captain 6 (Morris) arrived shortly after dispatch to find two vehicles with one patient confined. Engine 20 arrived and split crews with one crew assisting Company 6 with stabilization and extrication on one vehicle while the other crew checked and secured the second vehicle. MOTORCYCLE CRASH IN DAUPHIN COUNTY
8/21/09- At 02:16, Engine 20 was dispatched to assist Dauphin County Company 37 with an auto accident on the 81 bridge. Chief 5 (Bumgardner) arrived first to find the accident on the east shore just east of the bridge in another box area. Engine 20 arrived next to find one motorcycle in the roadway on fire with the patient nearby. The crew quickly knocked the fire with a dry chem while others assisted EMS with patient packaging. SHED FIRE IN THE MIDTOWN DISTRICT
8/19/09- At 18:31 hours, While Engine 20 was en route to an accident on the beltway in the 30 box, Headquarters struck the 17-01 box for smoke in the building. Quickly after dispatch, Chief's 5B (Rudeck) and 19 (Dressler) found the smoke to be caused from a large shed fire in the 18-01 box. Engine 20 was cleared from the 30 box and responded to the fire with a crew of 7. When Chief 5B (Rudeck) confirmed the working fire, Chief 5 (Bumgardner) ordered Tanker 20 staffed already to the scene to assist. Engine 19 arrived and took side A while Engine 20 laid 1100 feet of five inch to supply them. Tanker 20 arrived laying in to the rear for a secondary source. Engine 20 and Engine 19 crew quickly stretched two 1 3/4" lines and made quick work of the fire. AUTO ACCIDENT WITH ENTRAPMENT 7/23/09- At 12:31 hours, Engine 20 & Rescue 18 were sent to North Enola Drive in the area of the Middle school for an Auto Accident. Firefighter Brougher arrived first to find one car in the parking lot of the Middle school, with one patient pinned by his leg and advised in coming units of such. Engine 20 & Rescue 18 arrived at the same time and started extrication. Life Lion was requested and was landed by Engine 20 at the scene. LANDING ZONE OPERATIONS 7/8/09- At 11:12 hours, Engine 20 was requested to establish a landing zone for life lion at the Marysville Lions Club, while Marysville operated at an accident in Perdix. Life Lion landed and the crew assisted EMS with loading of the patient and the Engine returned. AUTO ACCIDENT WITH CONFINEMENT 7/1/09- At 18:17 hours, Units were dispatched to Interstate 81 southbound for an auto accident. Chief 2-30 (Hoffecker) arrived first with one vehicle with one confined and five injuries. Engine 20 arrived started patient care, basic stabilization and extrication. Life Lion was then requested for two patients and Brush 20 and Engine 1-30 handled the landing zone. Units on scene that also assisted were Rescues 18, 30, Tankers 20, 19 & Ambulances 1-71, 2-75, 85 & Dauphin MICU 9-1 & Medics 2-85, 86. Unfortunately, two of the five day was cancelled to bad weather. POLICE CHASE ENDS WITH ONE IN THE GARAGE
6/17/09- At 23:20 hours, Company 20 and Rescue 18 were sent to the 20-05 box for the reported auto accident. Engine 20 was on the street with 8 right after dispatch and units were advised that PD was on scene reporting a vehicle into a house. Chief 5B (Rudeck) arrived to find a two vehicle crash with one into a garage with no injuries. This incident resulted from a police chase that started in Perry County. Crews from 20 and 18 secured both vehicles and shored the structure before returning. HOUSE OFF IN RYE TOWNSHIP 6/14/09- At 00:41 hours, Perry County dispatched units to a house fire in the 1400 block of Valley Road. Chief 6-1 (Webster) arrived to find heavy smoke showing from the rear of the house and confirmed a working bedroom fire on the second division of the house. Tanker 20 arrived and assisted with water supply and lighting. The tanker crew then split half with laddering the house and the other going to the roof to open up. The Engine arrived then and assisted with overhaul operations. TREE INTO THE STRUCTURE
6/10/09- At 15:42 hours, The box was sent for a tree into an occupied structure in the 18 box. This had taken place during a severe storm that passed through the township moments before that left downed trees and power lines in the area as well. Engine 20 arrived on scene after checking on other minor incidents while en route to find a tree that pierced through the roof a row home. The engines crew assisted with going to the roof to clear the tree and debris before returning. COMPANY 20 BASIC TRAINING
6/6/09- Today six junior and probationary members completed an 8 hour in house basic training. The day consisted of radio training, vehicle stabilization, hose line advancement, ground ladders, laying in, fill site and dump site practices. REPORTED KITCHEN FIRE 6/4/09- At 17:41 hours, Engine 20 was dispatched on the first alarm assignment to the 18 box for the reported kitchen fire. Chief 18 (Rudeck) arrived to find light smoke coming from the end unit of a multiple unit row. Engine 20 arrived taking side C to find that the fire had been knocked down prior to arrival by Firefighter T. Matter with a dry chem. Crews checked for extension and performed ventilation before returning. ENGINE COMPANY RUNS FIRE AT AMITY HALL
5/19/09- At 03:30 hours, The Engine company was sent on a transfer to the Perry 2 house (Duncannon). After being at Station 2 for about 20 minutes, The engine was sent to the scene of the working building fire. The crew arrived to find crews working a fire at the well known Amity Hall. The engine assisted with establishing a second dump site and supply while the crew assisted with extensive overhaul operations. The engine was on scene for about 6.5 hours. ENGINE AND TANKER TO PERRY
5/14/09- At 22:24 hours, Company 20 was dispatched to assist Perry County Company 6 (Marysville) with a reported structure fire. Engine and Tanker 20 were on the street right away and while en route Perry County corrected the location to the 12 box (Shermansdale). Tanker 20 arrived with a crew of 7 to find crews on scene with a working fire in a large garage attached to a single story residential. The crew split and assisted with opening up and knockdown. The Engine arrived shortly after with a crew of 5 assisted with knockdown and overhaul before returning. SATURDAY TRAINING
5/9/09- On Saturday afternoon, The on station crew decided to do some pump training with the Engine. The crew setup different hand lines and master streams while the operators refreshed. TANKER ASSISTS WITH PAINT SPILL
5/4/09- At 16:51 hours, Tanker 20 was dispatched to assist Dauphin County units with a auto accident involving a massive paint spill. Tanker 20 arrived with 7 and went to work assisting crews with containing the spill. Crews worked through the evening with containing the leak and a massive wash down operation before opening the roadway back up. DOUBLE FATAL ACCIDENT IN FIRST DUE
5/4/09- At 13:32 hours, The 20-99 box was sent for the auto accident with entrapment on 11&15 at the county line. Crews arrived to find a two vehicle auto accident with a total of five patients. Sadly two patients had already succumbed to their injuries. Crews from 20,18, PC 6 and PC 11 worked together to assist EMS units with packaging the other patients. Crews were on scene for nearly three hours while authorities conducted the investigation. KITCHEN FIRE IN THE 17 BOX 4/28/09- At 04:08 hours the first alarm was sent to South Enola Drive for a Stove Fire. Chief 5B (Rudeck) went en-route and was advised that this was now going to be a kitchen fire. Engine 20 arrived at the same time as Engine 19 to find a small fire that was contained to the wall. Crews extinguished the fire and checked for extension. Shortly after the box was placed available. COMPANY ASSISTS MARYSVILLE WITH WILDFIRE
4/18/09- At 14:41 hours, Brush 20 was dispatched to assist Perry County Company 6 with a wildfire in the Borough of Marysville. While en route Chief 6 (Weaver) added Tanker 20 to assist. Chief 6, Brush 20 and Brush 6 arrived to find about a 1/2 acre of wooded area to be involved with a burn patient. Chief 6, Brush 20 and its crew were first to reach the fire and started an attack while other manpower started fire lines. Company 20 was on scene for a little over two hours assisting company 6. AUTO ACCIDENT ON THE INTERSTATE 4/12/09- At 03:39 hours, Engine 20 was dispatched along with Hampden units to Interstate 81 North for an Auto Accident with unknown injuries. Engine 20 arrived to find on vehicle on its side. The engine's crew stabilized and secured the hazards of the vehicle and assisted with patient care. DAYLIGHT CREW RUNS WORKER IN HAMPDEN
4/8/09- At 12:31 hours, Engine 20 was dispatched on the second alarm assignment to the 30-09 box for the working house fire. Crews from Hampden were already on scene with a two story residential with heavy fire involvement on division 2. Engine 20 arrived with a crew of five and assisted with the knock along with salvage and overhaul operations. HEAVY FIRE IN THE FIRST DUE
3/23/09- At 05:05 Hours, The first alarm was dispatched to the area of Valley Road and B Street for the unknown type building fire. Chief 5 (Bumgardner) arrived quickly to find a 50' x 100' 1.5 story garage type structure with heavy fire. Engine 20 arrived next and tagged a nearby hydrant and quickly deployed their step gun and a 2.5" hand line along with the wagon pipe. Tanker 20 then arrived and secured the engines hydrant. Crews from East Pennsboro, Hampden, Marysville, West Shore, Penbrook and York R.I.T. 69 worked well together to get the fire under control rather quickly. A special thanks to all the mutual aid companies along with Dauphin Rescue 37 and Tanker 38 for covering our house while we worked. FOAM FIREFIGHTING TECHNICIAN
3/21/09- Members from Companies 20,45 and 39 took part in a 16 hour foam firefighting technician course. Members were taught through both lecture and hands on training. Company 20 would like to thank Chief 45 (Boyce) and his assistants with teaching the course. ENGINE COMPANY RUNS 18 LOCAL
3/17/09- At 20:35 hours, The 18-01 local was sent to Shady Lane and Beaver Avenue for the auto accident. Chief 18 (Rudeck) arrived on the scene to find negative injuries and held the box to Engine 20. COMPANY 19 LIFE MEMBER LAID TO REST
3/16/09- Today, Members from companies 20,19,18,21,14,30 and 17 attended the funeral services for West Enola life member Bill Pierce who passed away last week. Bill will be missed by all who were blessed enough to know him! WEST ENOLA LIFE MEMBER PASSES AWAY
3/13/09- We regret to inform that William (Bill) Pierce, A life member of the West Enola Fire Company has passed away. Bill served actively with West Enola from 1947 to 1994. During his years of service he served as assistant chief and trustee. Bill will truly be missed by all who knew him! A viewing will be held from noon-2:00pm with the funeral service starting at 2:00pm at the River Of God Church in Enola. The burial will take place at the Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Marysville. 3/11/09- At 20:58 hours, The first alarm was sent to the 30-11 box for the possible structure fire. Engine 4-30 arrived to find a working hot tub fire to the rear of the residence. The box was quickly held to Companies 30,19 and 20. Engine 20 arrived with 8 and assisted Hampden's crew with checking for extension and mop up before returning. WORKER IN PERDIX
2/23/09- At 19:51 hours, Engine & Tanker Co. 20 was dispatched to assist Perry County Company 11 (Perdix) with the working house fire. Tanker 20 arrived with 7 and split crews with one going to the scene to assist with knockdown while the rest helped establish a water supply. Engine 20 arrived with 8 and split its crew with 3 to the roof to open up while the rest assisted with knockdown and overhaul. FOAM TEAM TRAINING
2/15/09- The Foam Taskforce (Companies 20 & 45) held an orientation of each companies apparatus and equipment that will be being used on the task force. FOAM TASK FORCE 1/30/09- The Empire Friendship Firefighters Association in Carlisle and the Summerdale Fire Company have worked with Cumberland County Special Hazards Operations Team and the Cumberland County Department of Public Safety to form a Foam Task Force. The Team is currently developing SOG's and will hold a meeting at Station 45 on Monday February 2nd at 18:30 to explain training guidelines and team expectations. The team will be conducting training at Station 20 on Sunday February 15th at 0900 for apparatus and equipment familiarization. All members should make an effort to attend these FTF.
